Two of India's most anticipated mass-market electric cars are now tied to the final weeks of 2026. Honda has confirmed that the 0 Alpha electric SUV will make its India debut on 2 December 2026, while Hyundai India's CEO has said the compact electric SUV codenamed HE1i will arrive by the end of 2026. Neither company has announced a price or a sales date yet, so December means a debut for Honda and an expected arrival for Hyundai, not two confirmed on-sale launches.

What Is Confirmed and What Is Not

The headline version of this story is that two affordable electric cars are coming in December. The detail is more careful than that.

Honda 0 Alpha: 2 December India Debut

Honda Cars India has confirmed the production-spec 0 Alpha will debut in India on 2 December 2026. The SUV is based on the prototype first shown at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025, and it has been under pan-India public road testing since March 2026, when the first prototype was flagged off from Honda's Tapukara plant in Rajasthan.

The 0 Alpha will be built at Tapukara for both the Indian market and exports, with Japan among the key markets Honda has named. It will be Honda Cars India's fourth new car of 2026, after the City facelift (May), the ZR-V hybrid (July) and the Elevate facelift (October).

Hyundai HE1i: Year-End Arrival

Hyundai Motor India MD and CEO Tarun Garg has said the compact electric SUV, codenamed HE1i, will arrive by the end of 2026. The original plan was to bring it before March 2027, so the timeline has been pulled forward by a few months. Hyundai has not named the car, given a date or published a price.

The HE1i is positioned as Hyundai's first dedicated mass-market electric vehicle for India, sitting below the Creta Electric. It will be built at Hyundai's Sriperumbudur plant in Tamil Nadu on the E-GMP (K) platform, which also underpins the Inster EV sold in other markets.

Reports say Hyundai will use imported Svolt battery cells initially to hold the earlier timeline, with locally made Exide cells expected to follow after March 2027. Hyundai has not detailed this switch itself in public specs, so treat it as reported.

What to Expect on Price

Honda has not named a price, and Hyundai has said pricing is a priority without sharing a number. The two cars also sit in different slots, so they are not direct rivals.

  • Honda 0 Alpha: a reported estimate of ₹17 lakh to ₹25 lakh places it against the Mahindra BE 6 and Tata Sierra EV. This figure comes from a single report and is not an official range.
  • Hyundai HE1i: expected to be priced against the Nexon EV and Punch EV class, which points to a lower bracket than the 0 Alpha. No official number exists.

Any price list circulating before the carmakers publish their own should be treated as a guess.

Evfy's Take

The useful way to read this news is to separate what is on a calendar from what is only a target. Honda has put one date on the calendar, 2 December, and it is a debut. Hyundai has given a window and not a date.

That matters for buyers. A debut shows the design, cabin and core specs. Prices and bookings usually follow weeks or months later. For the 0 Alpha, that points to early 2027 for real showroom activity. For the HE1i, the year-end target and the earlier March 2027 plan mean the real purchase window could still land on either side of the new year.

The other signal is how little either company has disclosed on range and battery size. Only about six weeks remain before Honda's debut, so the 2 December event is the first realistic moment for official 0 Alpha numbers.
