Kia has officially confirmed the global debut of the EV2 electric crossover at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show. Scheduled to begin on January 9, the event will showcase the production-spec Kia EV2 for the first time. Positioned as Kia’s smallest and most affordable global EV, the EV2 will sit below the EV3 in the international lineup. This new model aims to broaden Kia’s electric vehicle portfolio with a more accessible, urban-friendly offering. The automaker had also trademarked the EV2 name in India back in 2023, strengthening the speculation that the model may eventually be launched in the Indian market.Exterior Design: Production Model Stays Close to the ConceptKia’s teaser images reveal that the production-spec EV2 largely stays true to the EV2 concept shown earlier this year. The front fascia features vertically stacked LED DRLs, sharp light elements on either side, and a muscular skid plate. Heavy cladding along the lower section and an upright, boxy stance enhance the EV2’s micro SUV appeal. The silhouette clearly hints at similarities with the Kia Syros, especially with its upright nose and rugged proportions. The side profile teaser offers fewer details but suggests a high waistline and swept-up window line. Compared to the concept, the production EV2 appears to adopt more functional and toned-down elements such as a slightly longer front overhang, a conventional B-pillar and smoother lighting treatment. The wheels follow an aero-style design, differing from the square-shaped spokes of the concept. Further enhancing practicality, the ORVMs are larger, dual toned and more traditional in appearance. Flush door handles may also be part of the design, complementing the smooth body paneling across the exterior. At the rear, the EV2 gets low-set LED tail lamps similar to the Kia Syros, along with a roof-mounted spoiler and a mildly angled rear windshield. Thick rear cladding further reinforces the SUV-inspired look. Overall, Kia’s “Opposites United” design philosophy is clearly visible, blending rugged elements with urban sophistication.Dimensionally, the EV2 is expected to be around 4,000 mm in length, giving it proportions comparable to micro SUVs such as the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. This size positions the EV2 as an ideal urban EV with the stance and presence of a compact SUV.Platform and Interior: E-GMP Based With Modern Tech FeaturesThe Kia EV2 is built on the Hyundai Group’s 400-volt E-GMP architecture. This platform is cost-effective and already underpins other compact EVs such as the Hyundai Inster. Unlike the premium Kia EV6 and EV9 that use the 800-volt E-GMP system, the EV2’s 400-volt layout helps reduce manufacturing costs while supporting both LFP and NMC battery chemistries. This flexibility ensures affordability without compromising on functional range or performance.Although Kia’s latest teaser does not reveal the interior, the EV2 concept provides strong hints about what to expect. The concept featured a minimalist, open cabin layout with bench seats in both the front and rear rows. These seats offered sliding functionality to maximize interior space despite the compact footprint. The production model may retain this space-optimizing approach.Inside, the EV2 is expected to come equipped with dual 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Additional premium touches could include a panoramic glass roof, ventilated and heated seats for both front and rear passengers and a gaming-style steering wheel. Kia is likely to integrate its connected car navigation cockpit (ccNC), OTA updates, premium audio system and advanced connectivity features. ADAS Level 2 capability is also expected, further enhancing the EV2’s safety package.Features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) charging support could also be offered, especially since these technologies are already present in several Kia EVs. For charging, an 11 kW onboard charger — similar to the Hyundai Inster EV — is likely to be standard.Battery Options and Range ExpectationsWhile Kia has not officially confirmed the battery options for the EV2, strong indications suggest it will share components with the Hyundai Inster EV. The Inster offers a 42 kWh battery with a WLTP-claimed range of 327 km and a 49 kWh pack offering 370 km. Kia may adopt similar battery sizes for the EV2, making it practical for city-focused driving with occasional highway use.Early expectations place the EV2’s claimed range in the 350 to 400 km range, depending on battery size and variant. The model will feature a single front-mounted electric motor, keeping it front-wheel drive and ensuring an economical configuration. The power output figures remain unconfirmed but will likely match the urban practicality objective of the vehicle.India Launch Prospects and Market PositioningSpeculation around a potential India launch has grown stronger since Kia trademarked the EV2 name domestically. With the Kia Syros EV already spotted charging in India, Kia is actively strengthening its foothold in the local EV market. If introduced in India, the EV2 would sit below the Carens Clavis EV and compete with popular models like the Tata Nexon EV and the MG Windsor EV.Given its size, pricing potential, and feature set, the EV2 could serve as a compelling entry-level electric crossover for India’s rapidly expanding EV segment.
