Volkswagen has finally lifted the veil on their ID.CROSS Concept, a near-production electric compact SUV design, featuring a new design language, brand new technology and improved performance. The new generation of Volkswagen electric line stands out as fresh entry-level SUVs in the electric segment.Volkswagen, the largest supplier of electric cars in Germany and Europe in 2025, is set to unveil a total of 4 new electric concepts — ID.2 all, ID.GTI Concept, ID.EVERY1, and the ID.CROSS Concept — at the ongoing Munich Motor Show 2025. All the models are expected to be on the market from 2026.ID.CROSS Concept — Charming and Sophisticated with a Touch of DaringThe new clean and likeable design language shows an entirely new side of Volkswagen’s identity. With the ever-green Urban Jungle color, the brand is calling this design ‘Pure Positive’ which is absolutely what this car looks like. The powerful lines and surface gives the ID.CROSS a uniquely clean look. This looks like the guy your parents trust but also turns into a party animal in the shadows of the night. With their graphics and 3D light signature, the car even gives an innocent ‘smiling’ expression.Inspired by the Volkswagen Golf and VW bus, the ID.CROSS Concept has uniquely charismatic C-pillars and completely straight window line. The 21-inch alloy wheels have been specially designed for this car and are called the Balboa. To us, they look like boxy flower petals and they do not disappoint. Additionally, in cooperation with Goodyear, special 235/40 R21 tires were designed for the show car, which continue the design of the rim in the tire sidewall.ID.CROSS Concept — Compact but MeaningfulThe SUV Concept car is 4,161 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,601 mm. It is 1,839 mm wide and 1,588 mm tall. This is a similar size to the already existing T-Cross.When you look at the car, you might be fooled into thinking that it won’t be as spacious on the inside but in reality, the interior is exceptionally spacious. With a boot volume of 450-liters, which is already exceptional at this size, the additional frunk of 25 liters provides additional storage space. The unusual width of the vehicle and the airy design gives the interior a sense of space. While the ID.CROSS Concept is tailored for urban use, it is clearly an all-rounder suitable for longer journeys too.ID.CROSS Concept — Peace meets PracticalityThe interior of the ID.CROSS Concept is clearly impressive, with its outstanding material quality and feel. The Vanilla Chai (a warm shade of beige) lounge offers maximum comfort with the pre-configures lighting, sound, and climate modes (Atmospheres).Plant motifs on the screen and real plants (yes, REAL plants) can be seen in the virtually floating center console. A further highlight is the specially designed seats in the concept car that can be folded down completely to create a reclining area in the style of a VW Bus. Zen mode? Activated. The cockpit is an entirely different feel, with seamless interaction between the displays with intuitive menu structures, natural voice control and buttons for direct functions. The best part? They did not remove the buttons from the steering and we are a big fan. The multifunction steering has clear button control which has been completely redesigned for practicality. The two center displays are arranged on a visual axis, with a digital instrument cluster of 28 cm (11 inches) and an infotainment system of 33 cm (13 inches).New Platform, Better PerformanceThe front-wheel drive ID.CROSS Concept is based on the MEB modular electric drive matrix, which will be continuously further developed in the future with improvements to the MEB+, among other things, in terms of batteries and software.According to the company, the MEB+ is the technical key to being able to offer electric vehicles such as the production version of the ID. CROSS Concept and the new ID. Polo with above-average product characteristics at attractive prices. The ID.CROSS Concept features a newly developed, state-of-the-art drive system. Two central modules are the electric drive motor including power electronics integrated in the front axle system and the high-voltage battery arranged flat in the sandwich floor. The electric drive motor in the concept car develops an output of 155kW (211 PS) and powers the front wheels. The WLTP range forecast for the new ID. CROSS Concept is up to 420 km . Two other values are important for e-bike riders and fans of compact lifestyle camper vans: the ball coupling is designed for a drawbar load of 75 kg – enough to transport two e-bikes. The maximum trailer weight is up to 1,200 kg (braked, 8 per cent gradient).Volkswagen’s Future Plans — Four New Electric ConceptsThe ID.CROSS will likely have its global debut in the summer of 2026. The production-ready version of the ID.2 all has already been teased as the ID.Polo and is all set for a world premier in the first half of 2026. The ID.Polo GTI (ID.GTI Concept) will be presented shortly afterwards. Both models have been showcased at the IAA Mobility show, though with slight camouflage. With this, Volkswagen has marked their two legendary vehicles —Polo and GTI — in the world of electric mobility. The production-ready version of the ID.EVERY1 will also be showcased in Munich and will be expected to debut in 2027.
