Matter Motor Works has revolutionized the electric motorcycle with its first electric bike that comes with gears, blending traditional biking with EV tech.
For seasoned motorcycle riders, the shift to an electric motorcycle has been made even more seamless. With shifting gears, managing the clutch and the feel of the revs all missing from the electric motorcycles, it has often been cited as the reason for low adoption rates across India.
However, with this new innovation, Matter Motors, an electric mobility and energy tech startup from Gujarat, has launched the Matter Aera, the first and only electric motorcycle with gears.
Performance & Range
It gets three modes, the sport, eco, and city mode, with a max real world range of 125 km in the eco mode. It accelerates from 0 to 40 kmph in just 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 105 kmph.

Features
It gets four-speed manual gearbox, liquid-cooled battery and powertrain, 7-inch touchscreen, onboard 5A charging and a claimed running cost of just ₹0.25 per km. With a manual gearbox, touchscreen display, row running cost and solid performance, it is ideal for the urban city buyers.
Additionally, the Aera can be controlled remotely, has internet connectivity, gets lifetime battery warranty, with an app that records its entire history and more.
Design
Design wise, it looks like the regular 200cc street bikes, aiming for a seamless blending with the existing bike roster in India. In place of the petrol tank, it houses the battery and charger. With 17-inch wheels, 168 kg weight, and a seat height of 790mm, it is perfectly accessible for most riders.
Pricing
Available in two variants, Aera 5000 at ₹1.83 lakh, and Aera 5000+ at ₹1.94 lakh, it has taken the market by storm. The Matter Aera is perfect for urban city riders with a blend of traditional and modern technology. With the revolutionary tech of a manual gearbox, it is sure to gain the interest of the Indian audience.
