Maruti Suzuki has crossed 50,000 cumulative EV exports since overseas shipments began in August 2025, the company said on 29 October 2026. The e Vitara, Maruti's only EV and the model behind the export programme, is built at the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat and now ships to nearly 50 countries, with Europe as the largest destination. The company also says it accounted for nearly 93% of India's electric passenger vehicle exports in April-September 2026. These are company-stated figures. The exact unit count, the country-wise split and the total export base behind the 93% share have not been disclosed.
What Maruti Suzuki Announced
In a statement on 29 October 2026, Maruti Suzuki said its cumulative EV exports have crossed 50,000 units between the start of global shipments in August 2025 and October 2026. That is roughly 14 months from the first shipments.
The company also said it accounted for nearly 93% of India's electric passenger vehicle exports during April-September 2026, and that it was the country's leading passenger EV exporter in FY2025-26. Over the same April-September period, Maruti Suzuki held more than 50% of all passenger vehicle exports from India, shipping 16 models to nearly 120 countries, according to reports.
Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi traced the programme back to August 2025, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the start of e Vitara production at Hansalpur for sale in over 100 countries. He said Maruti Suzuki now exports EVs to nearly 50 of those countries.
How the e Vitara Export Numbers Built Up
The 50,000 mark is the latest in a run of milestones. The table below collects the cumulative export figures reported along the way. Cut-off dates differ slightly between sources, so treat them as "over" figures rather than exact counts.
| Reported period | Cumulative e Vitara exports | Countries |
| August 2025 (first batch) | Over 2,900 units | 12 European countries |
| End-October 2025 (company earnings call) | Over 7,000 units | Mostly Europe |
| Calendar year 2025 | Over 13,000 units | 29 countries |
| End of FY2025-26 (March 2026) | Over 25,000 units | 44 countries |
| Early June 2026 | Over 35,000 units | 46 countries |
| Late July 2026 (June quarter data) | Over 40,000 units | Not specified |
| 29 October 2026 | Over 50,000 units | Nearly 50 countries |

The wider export picture has moved with it. Industry data showed India's EV exports rising 14-fold to 15,641 units in the June 2026 quarter, from 1,122 units a year earlier, with the e Vitara leading that jump.
Where the e Vitara Is Exported
Maruti Suzuki has confirmed these markets among the nearly 50 it now serves:
- United Kingdom
- Norway
- Germany
- Japan
- Switzerland
The company says Europe is the largest export destination. The first batch in August 2025 went to 12 European countries, and the UK was reported as the leading market in the early months. Beyond the five names above and the Europe-first pattern, Maruti Suzuki has not published a country-wise breakdown.
Hansalpur: The Plant Behind the Exports
The e Vitara, Suzuki's first global battery electric vehicle, is built exclusively at Maruti Suzuki's Hansalpur facility in Gujarat. Key figures the company shared:
| Hansalpur detail | Figure |
| Annual production capacity | 1 million vehicles (recently expanded) |
| Cumulative investment | ₹25,288.7 crore |
| Share of Maruti's overseas shipments in FY2025-26 | Nearly half |
The company says Hansalpur is the first Suzuki manufacturing facility globally to reach 1 million units of annual capacity at a single location.
Exports vs Domestic Sales
The e Vitara went on sale in India in February 2026, with deliveries starting on 17 February. Industry data shows how lopsided the split has been so far.
| Measure | e Vitara figure | Period |
| Cumulative exports (shipments) | Over 35,000 units | August 2025 to end-May 2026 |
| Domestic wholesales (dispatches to dealers) | 7,097 units | January-May 2026 |
| Domestic retail registrations | 4,450 units | January-May 2026 |
Reports in mid-2026 said domestic allocation of the e Vitara was restricted to roughly 2,000-2,500 units a month, with far more reserved for exports. The periods in the table are not identical, so read it as a direction of travel and not a precise ratio.
Export-Spec e Vitara: Battery and Range
For export markets, the e Vitara is offered with two front-wheel-drive battery options and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version. Range figures for export cars are on the WLTP cycle, which is not directly comparable to the ARAI figures quoted for India.
| Version | Battery | Power | Range (WLTP) |
| FWD | 49 kWh | 144 hp | 344 km |
| FWD | 61 kWh | 174 hp | 428 km |
| AllGrip-e AWD | 61 kWh | 184 hp | 394 km |
Evfy's Take
The exports are now several times bigger than domestic sales. Using the mid-2026 figures above, roughly five e Vitaras went overseas for every one dispatched to Indian dealers (35,000+ against 7,097). This is Evfy's own approximate calculation, and the cut-off dates differ, but the direction is clear: the e Vitara is an export product first and a domestic product second.
The recent pace is steady, not explosive. Going from "over 40,000" in late July to "over 50,000" on 29 October implies roughly 10,000 units in about three months, or a little over 3,000 a month. Both markers are "over" figures with different cut-off dates, so this is an estimate.
Against the original ambition, the run-rate sits just under the low end. In September 2025, Maruti's chairman said 50,000 to 1,00,000 e Vitaras would be exported every year. Fifty thousand units over roughly 14 months works out to about 43,000 a year. The first months were a ramp-up and the company has not commented on this comparison, so we read it as context, not a shortfall.
The 93% share says as much about the field as about Maruti. It leaves roughly 7% for every other Indian maker combined. Other manufacturers, including Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, have announced export plans, but Maruti is the only one shipping EVs at this scale today.
