Mercedes-Benz India has launched the Mercedes-Maybach S 580e, the first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in the Maybach range in India, at ₹3.35 crore (ex-showroom). It is sold only as a four-seater, comes as a fully imported (CBU) car, and only 30 units are available at launch. Deliveries are reported to begin in November 2026. The 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine and electric motor together make 585 PS and 750 Nm, and the 22 kWh battery gives a claimed 98 km of WLTP electric range.

This is the first time a Maybach has been offered with a plug-in powertrain in India. Mercedes-Benz India introduced the S 450e, the first S-Class PHEV in the country, only months earlier, and says demand for plug-in technology is rising among its top-end buyers.

Reports also put the WLTP fuel efficiency at up to 34.48 kmpl. That is a lab figure for a plug-in hybrid with a charged battery, so treat it as a certification number, not a real-world one.

Outside: the grille is 20 percent larger and now lit, with illuminated Maybach lettering and a lit star on the bonnet. It rides on 20-inch forged alloys, and the headlamps carry three-pointed-star daytime running lights with rose gold highlights. Two-tone MANUFAKTUR exterior finishes are available.

Inside: you get a 12.3-inch driver display, a 14.4-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch passenger screen with a privacy function, plus an AR head-up display. The rear is the main event, with two heated, ventilated and massaging Executive seats, a full-length centre console, wireless charging, twin rear screens, and a 31-speaker Burmester system. Two wireless headsets are included.

The India-spec car has a collapsible spare wheel, so it does not get the champagne fridge offered in Europe. Champagne glasses are still part of the kit.

How It Compares With the S 450e

The nearest reference point is the S 450e, the S-Class PHEV Mercedes-Benz India launched earlier this year. The figures below come from Mercedes-Benz India's launch announcements.

Charging and Electric Range

The car charges at up to 11 kW on AC and up to 60 kW on DC, and it comes with MB.Charge public charging access. Mercedes-Benz is supplying an 11 kW home charger free of cost with every S 580e.

Some reports quote the electric range as "up to 100 km", while launch coverage points to 98 km on the WLTP cycle. We use 98 km here. WLTP is a lab test, so expect less on Indian roads with the air conditioning running and a full cabin.

What to Check Before You Book

  • Ask for the delivery slot in writing. With only 30 units, allocation matters more than the booking itself.
  • Confirm the home charger installation. The charger is free, but the wiring, society permissions and meter work at your end are not, and a three-phase supply is the safer bet for 11 kW AC charging.
  • Plan for the real range. Treat 60 to 70 km of electric running as a sensible daily expectation, which is our estimate and not a Mercedes-Benz claim.
  • Check the seating needs. There is no five-seat version, so this is a chauffeur-style or owner-in-the-back car.

Evfy's Take

The number to watch is not the price, it is the 30. By our own calculation, 30 cars at ₹3.35 crore add up to roughly ₹100 crore in ex-showroom value, which shows how Mercedes-Benz is treating this as a small, curated allocation for top-end buyers rather than a volume play.

There is also a trade-off hiding in the battery. Both the Maybach and the S 450e use a 22 kWh pack, but the Maybach quotes 98 km against the S 450e's 115 km. By our own calculation, that is about 4.5 km per kWh for the Maybach against 5.2 km per kWh for the S 450e. The extra weight of the longer body, all-wheel drive and the heavy rear-seat equipment is the likely reason, though Mercedes-Benz has not said so.

And the premium is steep. The Maybach costs about ₹1.15 crore more than the S 450e Launch Edition. In return, you get more power, a four-seat executive cabin and the Maybach badge, but less electric range.
