Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Set for 4 November India Debut: Locally Assembled 400 4MATIC Arrives Six Months After Europe

The Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric will launch in India on 4 November 2026. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed it will be locally assembled at its Chakan plant in Pune and offered in a single 400 4MATIC dual-motor trim with a 94 kWh battery and a claimed 715 km WLTP range. Official pricing is not out yet, but reports point to roughly ₹80 lakh to ₹90 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings are reported to open in early October.

What Mercedes-Benz Has Confirmed

Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed the 4 November launch date and says the GLC Electric will be assembled locally in CKD (completely knocked down) form. The company describes it as the fastest a global model has reached India in CKD form, arriving within six months of its European sales start.

For India, the SUV comes only as the GLC 400 4MATIC. It uses the standard wheelbase, not the long-wheelbase version sold in China.

GLC Electric India Specs at a Glance

Power is quoted as 489 hp in Autocar India's review and 490 hp in some other reports. Both refer to the same drivetrain, so Evfy uses the review figure.

Range and Charging

Mercedes-Benz claims 715 km on the WLTP cycle. WLTP figures are lab-based, so real-world numbers will be lower. Autocar India estimates a comfortable 550 km or more in Indian conditions, with careful driving pushing past 600 km. That is Autocar's estimate, not a Mercedes-Benz claim.

On a 330 kW DC charger, the battery can go from 10 to 80 percent in about 22 minutes, and Mercedes-Benz says it can add 300 km of range in 10 minutes. Both are peak-condition claims, and they depend on a charger that can actually deliver 330 kW.

Design, Features and Safety

• Grille: an illuminated upright grille with 942 lighting elements and a glowing three-pointed star
• Display: a 39.1-inch Hyperscreen spanning the dash, which Mercedes-Benz calls its largest display in a car
• Sound: Burmester 4D surround system with seat exciters
• Roof: a panoramic glass roof with nine individually controllable segments
• Seats: multi-way powered front seats with heating and massage, plus ventilation expected for India
• Suspension: air suspension with rear-axle steer (4.5 degrees)
• Safety: nine airbags, ESC and a full ADAS suite

The wheelbase is 84 mm longer than the petrol GLC. Wheel size for India is reported as 20-inch by Autocar India and 21-inch by another outlet, so it is unconfirmed until launch. Autocar also notes there is no provision for a spare tyre.

Expected Price and Bookings

Mercedes-Benz has not announced pricing. Estimates from the media differ:

Treat all of these as estimates until 4 November. Bookings are widely reported to open in the first week of October, but Mercedes-Benz has not published an official booking date yet.

Who It Will Compete With

Autocar India names the BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase and the Audi Q6 e-tron as alternatives to watch, though both are expected in 2027. That gives the GLC Electric a head start in the premium electric SUV space.

Evfy's Take

The launch date is 35 days away from today, and the timeline is the real story. A CKD model arriving six months after Europe is unusually quick for a luxury brand in India, and Autocar India says local assembly points to sharper pricing.

Here is a number worth watching. By Evfy's own calculation, 715 km from a 94 kWh pack works out to about 7.6 km per kWh on the WLTP cycle. The CLA Electric's 792 km from an 85 kWh pack is about 9.3 km per kWh. The GLC is a bigger, heavier, all-wheel-drive SUV, so the gap is expected, but it shows what buyers trade for the extra space and power.

A single-variant launch also keeps things simple. There is no choice to agonise over: buyers get the 489 hp dual-motor car or nothing.
