Maruti Suzuki has announced that its second battery electric vehicle (BEV) will be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2027, which runs from 4 to 9 February 2027 in New Delhi. The company has not named the model. Reports and a steady run of spy shots point to the YMC, the internal codename for Maruti's first three-row electric MPV, built on the same architecture as the e Vitara. For now, the BEV showcase is confirmed, while the YMC details below are reported.

What Maruti Suzuki has confirmed

Maruti has said its next BEV will make its public appearance at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in February 2027. That is the e Vitara's follow-up, and it gives the brand a clear second step in its electric plan.

The Expo itself is locked in: 4 to 9 February 2027, New Delhi, with Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi named as venues. Want the full event rundown? We have it covered.

Why the YMC is the likely candidate

The YMC has been spotted testing on Indian roads more than once, and the prototype looks like a three-row MPV. Our earlier coverage tracked those sightings as they happened.

Reports say the test mule carries vertically stacked tail lamps with some resemblance to the Ertiga's design, and a connected-screen setup inside similar to the e Vitara's. Earlier reports pointed to a September 2026 debut. The Expo timeline now suggests the reveal has moved to February 2027.

Where the YMC could sit in the market

The Kia Carens Clavis EV is currently the only electric MPV on sale under ₹20 lakh, according to reports. That is the benchmark the YMC is expected to target, and a Maruti entry would add the first mainstream Nexa-sold electric people mover to the mix.

Maruti already leads the entry-level MPV space with the Ertiga and XL6, so an electric three-row sibling fits naturally into its showroom lineup. Reports also suggest annual volume potential of 50,000 to 1 lakh units, including exports.

Evfy's Take

Here is what stands out to us: Maruti confirmed the BEV, not the MPV. That is a careful choice of words, and it keeps room for a surprise on Expo day.

Still, three things line up. The testing evidence is strong, the e Vitara platform is built for flexible body styles, and a three-row EV suits India's family and fleet buyers. If the YMC arrives at a sharp price, it could make seven-seat electric mobility a mainstream idea, not a premium one.

The shift from a September 2026 reveal to the Expo stage also tells us Maruti wants a bigger platform for this one.
