Price and Variant

The GLC Electric starts at ₹78.50 lakh ex-showroom, and Mercedes-Benz India has called it an introductory price. There is only one variant, the GLC 400 4MATIC, so every buyer gets the same fully loaded car with the AMG Line styling pack as standard.

The SUV becomes the entry point to Mercedes-Benz's electric SUV range in India, sitting below the EQE SUV. Mercedes-Benz India has not said how long the introductory price will stay valid, and no on-road price has been announced.

Battery, Motors and Range

The India-spec car uses two electric motors, one on each axle, for all-wheel drive. It rides on Mercedes-Benz's new electric platform, which uses an 800-volt architecture and is not related to the petrol and diesel GLC despite the shared name.

SpecificationDetail
Battery94 kWh
MotorsDual motors, one per axle
DrivetrainAll-wheel drive
Combined outputAbout 490 hp (360 kW)
Torque800 Nm
GearboxTwo-speed (one ratio for acceleration, one for efficiency)
0 to 100 km/h4.3 seconds
Claimed range711 km (WLTP)
Kerb weightNearly 2.5 tonnes

Pre-launch reports had quoted up to 715 km. The figure given at launch in India is 711 km on the WLTP cycle, and real-world range will be lower, as it is for every EV.

Charging

A 22 kW AC charger comes as standard. On a 330 kW DC fast charger, Mercedes-Benz says the SUV can add about 300 km of range in 10 minutes under suitable conditions. That is a company claim, and it depends on finding a charger that can actually deliver that power.

Design and Dimensions

The standout design feature is the illuminated grille with over 900 individually lit elements, which animates when the car is parked, started or switched off. The headlamps and tail lamps both use the three-pointed star as a lighting signature, and a wraparound gloss-black panel at the rear carries the tail lamps and the Mercedes logo.

The AMG Line pack brings 20-inch alloy wheels and sportier bumpers. The SUV is available in six colours: Sheer Blue, Lavender Silver, Obsidian Black, Opalite White Bright, Patagonia Red Metallic and Alpine Grey Solid.

Interior and Features

The cabin is built around a 39.1-inch single-piece screen that spans the dashboard, billed as the largest single-piece screen fitted to any car in India. It has no bezels or partitions and offers 11 display themes. The trade-off is that there are very few physical controls, and that includes the climate controls.

Key equipment:

  • 15-speaker 3D Burmester sound system
  • Panoramic glass roof with illuminated stars (no sunshade, but the glass opacity is electronically controlled)
  • Two wireless phone chargers
  • Ambient lighting and AI-enabled functions
  • Powered tailgate and power-folding rear seats
  • Heated and massaging front seats (no ventilation)
  • Interior choices: Black, Beech Brown or Ivory Beige

Some reports list rear-wheel steering, air suspension and ventilated front seats for this car. The launch-day details say the India-spec GLC 400 uses passive dampers, with no rear-wheel steering and no air suspension, and Evfy is going with those details until Mercedes-Benz India publishes a full India spec sheet.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The GLC Electric gets 9 airbags, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree surround-view camera and automatic parking assist. Evfy has not been able to confirm a crash-test rating for the India-spec car.

Bookings and Deliveries

Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, said at the launch in Pune that the company has received more than 1,000 bookings. He said the SUV is sold out through March 2027, and that he is asking Mercedes-Benz's global leadership for more cars and more kits so that more units can be built in India. Deliveries to the first customers begin around Diwali.

Iyer also indicated that EVs could account for 25 to 30 percent of Mercedes-Benz India's sales if supplies allow. These are company statements about bookings, not completed deliveries or revenue.

Rivals and Price Context

Mercedes-Benz says the GLC Electric has no direct rival in India at launch. The closest challengers are still to come.

Should You Book One?

It suits you if you want a locally assembled luxury electric SUV with long claimed range and a feature list that is already complete, since there are no variants to choose between. It also suits buyers who value a quiet, screen-led cabin.

Think twice if you want ventilated seats, air suspension or lots of physical buttons, or if you need a car quickly. With the order book full until March 2027, your delivery slot matters as much as the price, so ask the dealer for a written delivery timeline before paying anything. Also check how long the introductory price applies.

Evfy's Take

The interesting number is not the price. It is the supply. Mercedes-Benz India reported 650+ expressions of interest in the first 36 hours of registrations on 5 October, which works out to roughly 430 sign-ups a day by Evfy's own calculation. The 1,000+ figure announced at launch implies at least about 350 more over the following four weeks, or around 12 a day, a much slower pace. That comparison is rough, since 1,000+ is a floor and the company has used both "EOI" and "booking" for these numbers.

Even so, the order book is full until March 2027, and Iyer is asking for more kits. That points to kit allocation, not demand, as the real limit on how many GLC Electrics Indian buyers can get in the near term. It also helps explain why Mercedes-Benz can afford to call ₹78.50 lakh "introductory". Evfy's reading is that a price revision later is possible, but Mercedes-Benz India has not said anything about that.
