TVS Tops e-2W Sales for Fifth Month in a Row in August 2025, Ola and Ather Go Ahead of Bajaj

India’s electric two-wheeler market delivered 104,306 units in August 2025, marking a 17% year-on-year growth and the second-highest monthly sales this year. Despite supply chain hurdles, demand for EVs stayed robust, with six major players controlling 87% of the market.

TVS Motor Co continued its dominance for the fifth consecutive month, retailing 24,087 units, a 36% YoY increase, and securing a 23% market share. Cumulative sales for January-August 2025 reached 190,498 units, up 49% YoY, already 86% of its 2024 full-year sales (220,813 units).

The company also launched its new Orbiter EV on August 28 at ₹99,900 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). Deliveries begin in September, strengthening its product portfolio alongside the iQube.

Ola Electric Reclaims Second Spot

Ola Electric sold 18,972 e-scooters and motorcycles in August, capturing an 18% market share. The brand crossed 900,000 cumulative sales, the first EV maker in India to do so.

Its S1 series, priced between ₹65,000 and ₹1.70 Lakh, continues to drive sales, with the S1 Pro offering 142 km range. Ola also sells the Roadster X motorcycle with 501 km range and 125 kmph top speed. On August 15, Ola unveiled its upcoming S1 Pro Sport slated for launch in January 2026.

Ather Energy Records Best-Ever Sales

Ather Energy clocked 17,856 units, its highest-ever monthly sales, growing 62% YoY, with a 17% market share. Its flagship Rizta scooter, which crossed 100,000 wholesales in April 2025, remains the key growth driver, contributing over 60% of sales.

Cumulative sales for January-August 2025 stand at 116,046 units, already 92% of its CY2024 total (126,355 units), putting the company on track for 175,000+ annual sales in 2025.

Hero MotoCorp delivered 13,313 units in August, up 26% MoM and 180% YoY. With a 13% market share, the company climbed to fourth place, thanks to strong demand for the Vida VX2 model. This marks its second consecutive month of 10,000+ sales.

Bajaj Auto Hit by Supply Shortages

Bajaj Auto, a former chart-topper in February and March 2025, fell to fifth rank in August with 11,730 units, down 30% YoY. The decline came from rare earth magnet shortages that cut Chetak production by 47% in July. With supplies now restored, Bajaj is exploring light rare earth magnets and alternative technologies to avoid future disruptions.
