BMW 7 Series and i7 Facelifts Launched in India: Prices Start at ₹1.95 Crore

BMW launched the facelifted 7 Series and i7 in India on September 11, 2026, with prices starting at ₹1.95 crore (ex-showroom). The lineup includes the petrol-powered 740 M Sport at ₹1.95 crore, the electric electric i7 also at ₹1.95 crore, and the range-topping i7 M70 xDrive at ₹2.65 crore. The 740 M Sport and i7 50 xDrive are locally assembled in Chennai as CKD units, while the i7 M70 xDrive comes in as a fully built-up import. Deliveries begin in October 2026.

Here's something worth pointing out: BMW has priced the petrol 740 M Sport and the electric i7 50 xDrive identically at ₹1.95 crore. For the first time in this lineup, the choice between an ICE flagship and an electric one comes down to preference, not price.

What's new: design and cabin tech

The facelift brings a revised front end with an illuminated kidney grille and a split-headlamp layout, plus slimmer LED tail-lights at the rear. The 740 M Sport gets adaptive LED headlights with cornering light and matrix high-beam function rated for a claimed 600-metre range, along with BMW's non-dazzling high-beam assist as standard. The headlight units use diamond-cut crystal elements, a detail BMW has carried over from the outgoing car.

The i7 M70 xDrive is visually set apart with 21-inch M alloy wheels, a larger front air intake, M badges on the side windows and rear light edges, and a darker illumination tone on its kidney grille.

Inside, all three variants get BMW's new Panoramic iDrive layout, built around a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and a 14.6-inch front passenger display. The i7 range adds a 31.3-inch 8K rear Theatre Screen that extends from the roof, paired with a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound system with Dolby Atmos.

i7 powertrain and range

The i7 50 xDrive M Sport gets a new 112.5kWh battery, up from 101.7kWh on the outgoing eDrive50, and now comes with xDrive all-wheel drive as standard, a change from the outgoing rear-wheel-drive-only setup. It makes 455hp and 600Nm, does 0-100kmph in 5.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 210kmph. Claimed WLTP range stands at 728km, up 125km over the outgoing model and pitched by BMW as best-in-class for the segment.

The i7 M70 xDrive sits at the top of the range, with 680hp and up to 1,100Nm of torque available in Sport Boost or Launch Control (1,015Nm in regular Sport mode). It does 0-100kmph in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 250kmph, while still returning a claimed WLTP range of 686km.

i7 charging

Both i7 variants support 250kW DC fast charging, taking the battery from 10 to 80 percent in a claimed 28 minutes. BMW says a 10-minute top-up on a suitable DC charger can add up to 235km of range. For home charging, both trims come with a complimentary BMW Wallbox charger and installation, supporting up to 22kW AC. A full 0-100 percent charge on the 22kW AC wallbox takes roughly six hours.

740 M Sport powertrain

The petrol 740 M Sport continues with a 3.0-litre inline-six turbo-petrol engine and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, now producing 400hp and 540Nm, up 19hp and 20Nm over the outgoing model. It's paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. There's no diesel option in this facelifted lineup, unlike the outgoing 7 Series, which offered a 740d.

Local assembly

Both the 740 M Sport and the i7 50 xDrive M Sport are assembled locally at BMW Group Plant Chennai from CKD kits. The range-topping i7 M70 xDrive continues to be brought in as a completely built-up unit (CBU) from Germany. Some reports suggest India is now the only country outside Germany where BMW assembles the i7. We haven't been able to independently confirm this claim, so treat it as unverified for now.

Rivals

The BMW 7 Series' most direct rival in India is the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The i7, being fully electric, is cross-shopped against the Mercedes-Benz EQS and the Porsche Taycan.
