Specifications

The BYD Dolphin G DM-i will come equipped with two battery pack options. The entry-level trim comes equipped with a 7.42 kWh Blade Battery, which belts out 40km of electric range. On the other hand, top-end trims are equipped with an 18.3 kWh battery pack that goes up to 105km of electric range. However, when combined with a petrol mill, it can travel up to 1,040 km before needing a refill or recharge.

The biggest highlight of the Dolphin G DM-i is BYD's DM-i plug-in hybrid technology. Unlike traditional hybrids, the system is designed to operate primarily as an electric vehicle, with the electric motor handling most driving situations.

Power comes from a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor producing 163 PS and 210 Nm of torque. The hatchback can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 8.3 seconds and has a top speed of 180 kmph.

When it comes to charging capabilities, the larger 18.3 kWh battery supports DC fast charging. BYD claims it can charge from 10 to 80 % in just 26 minutes.
