Olectra Greentech has put 35 air-conditioned, 9 metre electric buses on the road in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the fleet on 1 November 2026 at the Divisional Sports Complex, and Evey Trans started passenger services on 2 November 2026. The buses run on blade battery technology and support the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation's push to modernise city transport. Routes, fares, battery capacity and range have not been disclosed so far.
What Olectra Has Announced
Olectra Greentech, which describes itself as India's largest electric commercial vehicle manufacturer, says the 35 buses were formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on 1 November 2026. The ceremony was held at the Divisional Sports Complex in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
The buses are meant to support the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation's efforts to modernise the city's public transport network. Passenger services were scheduled to begin on 2 November 2026 across various routes in the city.
Olectra Managing Director Mahesh Babu said the company has 4,500+ electric buses on the road across more than 55 cities, covering over 750 million green kilometres. He thanked the Government of Maharashtra and the municipal corporation for their continued trust and support.

Who Runs the Buses
The buses will be operated by Evey Trans, according to Olectra's statement. Reports on earlier Olectra deployments describe Evey Trans as a MEIL Group company that runs electric buses under long-term gross cost contracts, where the operator handles drivers, maintenance and charging while the transport body keeps scheduling and fare collection.
Olectra's release does not say whether the Sambhajinagar buses follow the same model. Local reports from earlier years said the city's Smart City administration chose to hire the buses on lease instead of buying them, which points the same way, but neither side has published the contract terms.
How Long the City Waited
This rollout comes after a slow build-up. Local reports said the Smart City Mission authority decided on 35 electric buses roughly two years before January 2026, and the first electric bus reached the city in November 2024. A report in January 2026 flagged that the arrival of the full batch was delayed.
The same local reporting said the Jadhavwadi bus depot, set up behind the Agriculture Produce Market Committee, was being equipped with a charging station for the electric buses. Olectra's release does not mention the depot or charging setup, so treat that as a local report and not a company confirmation.
Olectra's Recent Deployments
For context, here is how this rollout sits next to some of Olectra's other recent bus handovers, based on company statements and reports.
| Date | Location | Buses | Note |
| Oct 2025 | Puducherry | 25 | Operated by Evey Trans under a 12-year gross cost contract, per reports |
| Jun 2026 | Hyderabad (TGSRTC) | 60 | Evey Trans reported as involved |
| Aug 2026 | Himachal Pradesh (HRTC) | 297 | Olectra's 4,000th electric bus handed over at the flag-off |
| 1 Nov 2026 | Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar | 35 | Inaugurated by CM Fadnavis; Evey Trans operates |
These rollouts are not like-for-like. Operators, contract models and bus lengths differ, so the table shows pace and spread, not a performance ranking.
Evfy's Take
The headline number is small for Olectra but large for the city. Earlier local reports put Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar's existing city bus fleet at about 100 buses, mostly diesel. Against a combined fleet of around 135, the 35 electric buses would make up roughly a quarter of the total. This is Evfy's own calculation from older local reports, so treat it as an estimate until the municipal corporation publishes a current fleet count.
The second point is Olectra's own pace. In August 2026 the company said it had crossed 4,000 buses, with an order book above 8,500 vehicles. Its latest statement says 4,500+ buses on the road and an order book above 7,950. That reads like deliveries working through the backlog, though that is Evfy's interpretation and the company has not framed it that way.
The open questions matter for riders: which routes get the buses first, whether fares match the existing city buses, and how many round trips each bus can complete on a charge. None of that has been published yet.
