Two big numbers in one headline look like sales figures. They aren't, and knowing the difference will save you from a few wrong assumptions before you book.

10,000 built vs. 25,000 booked: reading the numbers

We've all skimmed a press release and walked away with the wrong number in our heads. Here's what each figure actually measures.

Here's how we read them.

The 25,000 isn't fresh news. Oben first reported it in May 2026, within 15 days of the Evo's launch. September's announcement repeats "over 25,000," so it doesn't say how many bookings have arrived since.

Bookings and deliveries are separate queues. Coverage of the announcement points out that Oben hasn't disclosed model-wise production, how many Evos have been delivered, or how long it will take to clear existing bookings.

A quick scale check. Ten thousand cumulative motorcycles is about a tenth of one year's rated capacity. That's a loose comparison, though, because one is a running total and the other is an annual limit. It doesn't measure how busy the plant is. Still, 25,000 bookings equal a quarter of a full year's capacity, which is why ramping up production matters.

Hypothetical: Picture two buyers who booked the same week. One lives in Bengaluru, where Evo handovers began in July. The other lives in a city the phased rollout reaches later. Same headline number, very different wait.

IDC stands for Indian Driving Cycle, a standardised test. It's a fair yardstick for comparing bikes, but it's a ceiling more than a promise for your commute.

What this means if you're thinking of buying

1. Ask for a delivery date in writing. The announcement doesn't give a timeline for clearing bookings, so your showroom is the only reliable source.
2. Check your city on Oben's "Locate Us" page. A network of 150+ showrooms across 90+ cities is broad, but service distance from your home still matters.
3. Treat 180 km as a best case. Traffic, heat, hills and a pillion all eat into range. Plan around less.
4. Budget for on-road costs. The ₹1,24,999 price excludes insurance, road tax and registration. State subsidies vary.
5. Know your booking terms. Oben's site lists ₹10,000 as a fully refundable booking amount at the time of writing. Confirm that at the showroom.
6. Confirm the current price. The launch offer of ₹99,999 was for the first 10,000 customers. Oben's site now lists ₹1,24,999, so ask whether any offer remains.

For a rough EMI, Oben's own calculator uses ₹30,000 down, 36 months at 8.5%, which comes to about ₹2,999 a month. It's indicative only, and your lender's terms will decide the real number.

Mistakes people make with milestone news

• Reading 25,000 as sales. It's bookings. Some may convert quickly, and some may not.
• Assuming all 10,000 are Evos. Oben also sells other Rorr-series bikes, such as the Rorr EZ Sigma, and it hasn't published the split.
• Skipping the service question. A bike is only as easy to own as the nearest service centre makes it.
• Ignoring the warranty fine print. Eight years sounds great. Read the terms for any distance limits before you rely on it.

The takeaway

Oben has crossed a real manufacturing line: 10,000 electric motorcycles built, a plant rated for 1 lakh a year, and Evo deliveries under way. That's more than most EV motorcycle startups can say.

But the headline numbers measure production and interest, not your wait time or your ownership experience. Before you book, ask four things: how many Evos have been delivered, how long the wait is in your city, how many of the 10,000 are Evos, and how far the nearest service centre is from your home.
