Upcoming EV Car Launches in India in October 2026: Volvo EX90 and ES90 Are the Only Confirmed Arrivals

Only two electric cars have a confirmed India launch date in October 2026: the Volvo EX90 SUV and the Volvo ES90 sedan, both arriving on 12 October 2026. Volvo hasn't announced India prices or variants yet, but unofficial estimates put the pair at roughly ₹1 crore to ₹1.4 crore. Other EVs that listing sites tag for October, including the Tata Safari EV and VinFast VF3, have no official date, and the Tata Aeris that some sites still call an EV launched on 25 September as a petrol and CNG sedan. In this guide, "confirmed" means the carmaker has announced a launch date for India.

Which EVs Are Confirmed for October 2026?

According to Autocar India, Volvo has confirmed that the EX90 and ES90 will launch in India on 12 October 2026. Both will be Volvo's flagship electric models here, sitting above the EX30 and EC40. The ES90 also marks Volvo India's return to the luxury sedan space, after the S90 was discontinued in June 2025.

Autocar India expects the EX90 to rival the Mercedes-Benz EQS and Kia EV9, while the ES90 is likely to go up against the BMW i5.

That's the full confirmed list. October's other big launches, such as the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class facelift and the new Audi Q3, are petrol or hybrid cars, so they sit outside this guide.

Volvo EX90 and ES90 at a Glance

The figures below are global-spec numbers reported by Autocar India. Volvo hasn't confirmed which battery and motor options India will get.

Both cars share a 14.5-inch Google-based portrait touchscreen, a 9-inch driver display and a 13.2-inch head-up display. Global equipment includes a 360-degree camera, a panoramic glass roof, four-zone climate control, vehicle-to-load (V2L) and a 5G connection for over-the-air updates. Volvo will announce the India equipment list at launch.

What Volvo Hasn't Confirmed Yet

A confirmed date doesn't mean a confirmed spec sheet. Here's what's still open:

• India prices. Autocar India lists expected prices of ₹1.40 crore for the EX90 and ₹1.00 crore for the ES90. ZigWheels lists ₹1.20 crore and ₹1.10 crore. Treat both sets as unofficial.
• India-spec batteries and motors. Volvo is expected to announce the battery, powertrain, range and pricing on 12 October, according to autoX.
• Sourcing. We couldn't find a confirmation on whether the two cars arrive as fully imported units or locally assembled. This matters because it drives the final price.
• Deliveries and bookings. No delivery timeline appeared in the launch coverage we reviewed.

Volvo EX90 and ES90 vs Their Rivals

Autocar India names the EV9 and EQS as the EX90's likely rivals, and the i5 as the ES90's. We've tabulated the two where the numbers are clean. The EQS SUV isn't in the table because its price and battery vary by variant.

On paper, the ES90's 696km WLTP range is well ahead of the i5's 516km. The real test is the India price, which Volvo will reveal on 12 October.

Should You Wait for the 12 October Launch?

Wait if:

• You're shopping in the ₹1 crore-plus luxury EV bracket and want to compare official Volvo pricing against the EV9, EQS and i5 before booking.
• You want a 7-seat electric SUV (EX90) or a long-range electric sedan (ES90) and haven't picked a brand yet.

Don't wait if:

• Your budget is under ₹30 lakh. Nothing new is confirmed in that range for October.
• You need a car delivered this month. Volvo hasn't announced delivery dates.

What to check on launch day

1. India-spec battery and range. Confirm which pack India gets and whether the range is the WLTP figure or a locally certified one.
2. Ex-showroom price and sourcing. Find out whether the cars are imported or assembled locally.
3. Battery warranty terms. Look at what transfers to a second owner, not just the headline number.
4. India-spec ADAS and features. Global lists don't always carry over.
5. Service and charging support in your city. A luxury EV is only as good as the nearest service centre.

Premium imports have shown some of the steepest depreciation in real used listings, so warranty terms deserve extra attention at this price.

October is shaping up as a luxury EV month, not a mass-market one. The affordable launches already happened in August, when the MG Hector Tomahawk EV arrived at ₹19.49 lakh and the Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq at ₹19.45 lakh, according to Autocar India. If you're under ₹30 lakh, there's no confirmed October launch to hold out for.

The second lesson is about how to read launch calendars. Listing sites showed an "Aeris EV" and a BE 07 for October, and neither is coming. We use a simple three-part test before calling an EV launch confirmed:

• The carmaker announced the date. A listing site's "expected" date doesn't count.
• The product is actually an EV. Facelifts and rebadges can carry an old EV label.
• The date is for India. A global reveal isn't an India launch.

The EX90 and ES90 pass all three. Luxury EVs are also lining up beyond October, with the Bentley Torcal expected in India in the second half of 2027.
